Financial assistance programs are available to assist with source reduction and recycling of solid waste, education and outreach.
Solid Waste Alternatives Program (SWAP)
Financial assistance is available for source reduction, recycling and education projects which result in the diversion of solid waste from Iowa landfills. A fifty percent cost share is required through cash match and in-kind match. Projects are selected through a quarterly competitive process.
Waste Tire Market Development Program
Up to $300,000 is available annually to assist in the development and expansion of in-state processing industries and markets for waste tire material.
Professional Development Assistance Program
Limited financial assistance is available to develop and deliver technical assistance, public awareness, continuing education and other professional development opportunities to Iowa's solid waste professionals, educators and others.
Regional Collection Center (RCC) Establishment Grants
The RCC program provides grant assistance for costs associated with education and constructing or modifying a structure(s) to provide collection, sorting and packaging of hazardous materials from urban and rural households and conditionally exempt small quantity generator businesses prior final disposal.
Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) Grants
The HHM program provides grants educate the public about proper purchases, use, storage and disposal of household hazardous materials.
HHM School Chemical Management Grants
Up to $900 in financial assistance may be available to a school desiring to upgrade their chemical management program.
